KOHLER as a Key Player in E-Mobility
Manufacturers of electric motor components rely on KOHLER's strip feeding lines and leveling machines.
Electric motors have become an essential part of modern vehicles – they not only power electric cars but are also used in numerous comfort and safety functions. At the core of these drives are two crucial components: the rotor and the stator, both made from electrical steel.
From Coil to Precision Leveled Metal Sheet Stacks
The production of rotors and stators is a complex process involving multiple steps. The required electrical steel is delivered in coils, from which individual components are stamped and stacked into multi-layered leveled metal sheets. This layered construction generates a more uniform and therefore more efficient magnetic field compared to solid materials.
Leveling Precision as the Key Factor
The quality of the manufactured components directly impacts the performance and efficiency of electric motors. That’s why absolute precision in production is essential. Manufacturers rely on highly automated production lines, where KOHLER Maschinenbau GmbH plays a key role. The company, based in Lahr, develops and produces strip feeding systems and precision leveling machines for industrial sheet metal processing.
During the rolling process and the coiling of the material, internal stresses such as curvature, warping, and torsion can develop. These not only complicate further processing but also significantly affect the quality of the final product. KOHLER's leveling machines effectively eliminate these stresses, ensuring optimal material properties.
Optimal Material Preparation for Maximum Quality
In the production line, heavy coils are mounted onto a decoiler, while an automatic strip feeder pulls the material into the leveling machine. Here, up to 21 rollers precisely level the sheet metal to just the right degree—no more and no less than its specific yield point. The result is a flat, nearly stress-free strip, which is then fed into a loop buffer. This buffer compensates for variations in feed rates, ensuring a continuous and stable material flow in subsequent processes.
Rotor and Stator – The Magnetic Heart of E-Mobility
The future of e-mobility looks promising, and demand for rotors and stators continues to grow. In addition to electric vehicles, modern passenger cars are increasingly equipped with electric drives for various comfort and safety functions. KOHLER's innovative technology helps manufacturers meet these increasing demands with the highest levels of precision and efficiency.
